Speaker: Owen Carmichael, Ph.D.
Title: The puzzle of mixed vascular and Alzheimer pathologies in cognitive aging

Owen Carmichael is the Director of Biomedical Imaging and an Associate Professor at Pennington Biomedical Research Center.   Since 2005 he has run an independently funded research laboratory that develops cutting edge biomedical imaging techniques and uses them to clarify the biological course of brain aging.  Before arriving at the Pennington Center he was Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of California, Davis, where he co-directed the Neuroimaging Core of the UC Davis Alzheimer’s Disease Center.  He received his Ph.D. in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University in 2003 and was a postdoctoral fellow in the Radiology Department of the University of Pittsburgh from 2003 to 2005.  He has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, Dana Foundation, State of California, and the Alzheimer’s Association.  He has published over 80 research papers and is on the editorial boards of five academic journals.
