Brain Awareness Week March 12th - 17th

With the success of last year's school visitation model, we will be visiting local schools again.
Brain Awareness Week is March 12th - 17th. Dr. Christopher Schmoutz is in charge of coordinating this event.

Please see Dr. Schmoutz's message below:

The Society of Neuroscience is celebrating Brain Awareness Week this year during the week of March 12th - 17th. Would you like to join me for this year's outreach events in Shreveport? Our activities and demonstrations at local elementary schools allow many young students to interact with our faculty and students directly. These learning opportunities offer a chance to spark these students' interest in science and medicine with fun activities to illustrate brain structures and functions. Just think: what if a scientist had let you poke a sheep's brain in your 4th grade classroom?

We will hold an information and planning meeting this Tuesday in 5-201 (Pharmacology conference room) at 2:00pm to discuss the details of our activities. Please bring along any ideas you've got for additional fun activities and demonstrations for our young students. In addition, I'd like to start a sign-up sheet for the session times now. Please use this Google spreadsheet to volunteer for one of the time slots. We will need at least 4 volunteers for each hour of demonstrations (if you see an empty activity slot, please try to fill those first).
